NATIONAL WATER WEEK (Western Cape): 21 – 27 March 2011

AWARENESS / MEDIA CAMPAIGN: March 2011
- Collaborative National through-the-line (e.g. online, social media, collaterals, posters, murals, radio, TV, billboards including National Retail In-Store media & internal corporate communications).
- Promise: People are invited to make the Flow promise (commitment) by all means available (e.g. Radio, TV, SMS, Online) and share their action i.e. how are they for love of water.
Project Champions: Greenhouse, Corporate, DWA, CIty of Cape Town, SABC, ETV, Primedia & other media organizations.

K-DAY: 19 March
- Full day of family entertainment and performance, est. 15 000 attendance.
- K-Day is for love of water by installing water stations, providing water bottles and creating awareness.
- Location: Val De Vie, Sponsored by KFM (Primedia) & Santam.

MEDIA TOUR : 20 March
- Tour of a waste water facility with a focus on water quality.
- Location proposed: Potsdam.
Project Champions: Department of Water Affairs, Western Cape Region.
WORLD WATER DAY CONFERENCE & EXPO: 20-22 March
- Detail of Main Event and Side Events available at www.worldwaterday2011.org and as separate document if requested.
- Includes Presentations, plenary discussions, high level exchange, cocktail function, CT Jazz festival, live crossing/broadcast to other global events.
- Theme: Water and Urbanization.
- Location: CTICC.

WALK FOR LOVE OF WATER: 21 March
- Supporting the message that all have a right to clean, safe freshwater – a constitutional right in SA and to identify with those who walk each day to collect water.
- Route: Start at CTICC at +-1pm end at Company Gardens at +- 2pm
- The Prince of Orange will mark the walk officially with an open address to the UN delegates and 400 community members as well as the general public
- Public Registration: Coen Steytler Avenue, outside CTICC from 12pm
- Supported by entertainment (minstrels, drummers, floats, puppets) along the way
- Template to be sent countrywide to DWA offices to invite all: municipalities, to replicate and activate.
- Location: Fan Walk Route culminates at the Green Point Urban Park.

WALK CELEBRATION & FESTIVITIES: 21 March
- The Walk ends at the Company Gardens, where Cape Town Festival is for love of water
- Entertainment (live arts performances, live music, water rituals).
- Mayor Dan Plato has made a commitment to deliver a public address at the end of the Walk. He has been invited to attend the walk or receive the walk when it arrives.
- The event includes top domestic entertainment including Emo Adams, Jesse Clegg and Judith Sephuma and many more, intersperse with fantastic emerging community talent.

COMMUNITY WATER EXPO: 21-25 March
- Opening is at 12pm on 21 March.
- Knowledge / experiential expo aimed at communities and children addressing Water challenges and opportunities showcasing solutions.
- Location: OR Tambo Hall, Khayelitsha.

LEARNERS WATER EVENT 22-25 March
- Knowledge / educational / edutainment event aimed at the youth.
- Accessible to students and schools.
- Location: Township outing, Ratanga Junction combined with Intaka Eco Centre.

THE FLOW PROMISE GROUND ACTIVATIONS: March 2011
- At various locations during Water Week people are invited to make the FLOW Promise with their hand-print on a long canvas.
- People are asked the question “Are you for love of water?” then asked to become a Green Ambassador and make the promise.
- Platforms: CTICC (20 March), K-day (19 March), Walk (21 March)

ANTHEMIC THEME SONG LAUNCH: 22 March
‘For love of water’.
- Launched at the CTICC on World Water day and played throughout the week
- Composed by South African composer, Collaborative Anthemic theme song by Top African Artists.

EVENING PRESENTATION & COCKTAIL FUNCTION: 22-24 March
- Presentations, talks, match making, plenary discussions, film screenings, cocktails.
- World class live arts performance i.e music, comedy, poetry.
- By invitation only.
- 22 March (for love of water social media launch), 23 March (host: Dutch Ambassador), 24 March (host: Professional Water Management).
- Location: the Two Oceans Aquarium – V&A Waterfront.

WATER FILM: 27 March
- Irena Salina’s award-winning documentary investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century – The World Water Crisis.
- Time: 6:15pm

CHILDART COMPETITION: March – June 2011
- Currently in its 48th year, Santam’s Child Art programme continues to add colour to the lives of thousands of children by providing a platform for young artists.
- The Santam Child Art Programme is the longest running CSI programmes in Santam.
- Santam partners with schools and art centres throughout South Africa to invite entries for the Child Art competition. It attracts more than 3 800 entries annually, of which 220 are selected for an online exhibition.
- An independent panel judges the entries and selects 13 artworks to appear in the Child Art calendar for the following year. The calendar is made available to the public at R25 each and the proceeds are used to fund educator development (arts & culture) and art classes for children from previously disadvantaged communities.
- National Santam Childart Competition sent to all registered Schools in SA in March 2011
- Theme ‘Save our planet, save our water’.

ADOPT A RIVER CAMPAIGN: March
- A door-to-door awareness campaign through communities.
- Location: Stellenbosch and Knysna.
Project champions: DWA, Knysna Municipality and Stellenbosch Municipality
EARTH HOUR: 26 March
- At 8.30 PM on Saturday 26 March 2011, lights will switch off around the globe for Earth Hour.
- This year Earth Hour 60+ means thinking beyond energy, looking into other ways to look after the environment.

TEDx CAPE TOWN: 26 March (postponed to 16 April)
- In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx – independently organized TED event.
- At TEDX Cape Town, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group around the issue of water.
