Walks

World Walks For Water LogoThe World Walks for Water is a global event from 19-22 March 2011, that aims to raise awareness of the world’s current water and sanitation crisis, and critically, demand strong government action to stop the needless deaths of 4000 children every day.

Millions of people walk 6 kilometres every day just to collect water for their basic needs. Billions have no safe place to go to the toilet. Lack of water and sanitation traps people in a vicious circle of disease, lost life chances and poverty.

On World Water Day 2011 thousands of people across the globe will walk together for 6 kilometres to demand an end to this crisis. The walks will build on the success of the World’s Longest Toilet Queue in 2010, and demand that politicians in the North and the South keep their promises and step up their efforts to ensure water and sanitation for all people, everywhere.

We need YOU to get involved, too.

Now is the time to tell the world’s politicians about our concern.
Now is the time the World Walks for Water.

WHO WE ARE

The World Walks for Water campaign was the result of a global consultation of hundreds of organisations working on water and sanitation. We asked their thoughts on a campaign that would apply pressure on politicians following the World’s Longest Toilet Queue last year, which raised awareness and achieved change for the sanitation and water crisis.

The campaign is coordinated by staff from four organisations, click to find out more:

End Water Poverty is a global coalition of over 175 organisations campaigning to end the water and sanitation crisis.

Freshwater Action Network (FAN) is a major network of civil society organisations implementing and influencing water and sanitation policy and practice.

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council is a global multi-stakeholder partnership organisation that works to improve the lives of poor people.

WASH United is a coalition of civil society organisations, United Nation agencies, governments and sport stars promoting safe drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for all people, everywhere.
